Fall into Wellness: Refreshing Your Health Routine this Autumn

The leaves are changing color, the air is getting cooler, and the transition into autumn is officially underway. While this season can be a difficult time for many people who are used to enjoying the summer sun and activities, the fall brings its own unique set of delights.

One of the best things about autumn is that it's a fresh start and a great time to reset your routine. If you feel like you need a change, now is the perfect time to make some adjustments to your wellness habits. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Get Outside

Autumn is a wonderful time of year to get outside and enjoy the cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage. The leaves begin to change color, and the air has a crispness that invigorates the senses. It is also a great time to participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking. The mild weather makes it ideal for exploring nature, and there are often fewer crowds at popular parks and trails. Take advantage of the cooler temperatures and beautiful scenery by spending time outdoors. Go for a walk, hike, or bike ride, and soak up some vitamin D.

Eat Seasonal Produce

Autumn is a wonderful time to enjoy a new set of delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables. Diversity in your diet is key; testing out new ingredients and dishes can never hurt! From apples and pumpkins to squash and Brussels sprouts, there are many great options to choose from. As you stumble upon new forms of fresh produce at the grocery store, get inspired and explore some new, healthy recipes!

Get Organized

The start of a new season is the perfect time to get your life in order. Take some time to declutter your space and set up a system that works for you. This will help to reduce stress and make it easier for you to stick to your wellness routine. No need to wait for spring cleaning -- a good autumn purge works just as well.

Make Time for Self-Care

It's important to make time for yourself, especially when the weather changes. Whatever makes you feel good, make sure to schedule it into your routine. Fall is the perfect time to go on a nature walk, take a relaxing bath, cozy up with a book, or even try out a new yoga class. Treat your self-care time like you would any other commitment. Put it in your calendar and make sure it stays; you won’t regret it!

Prioritize Good Sleep

If your sleep patterns have been less than stellar, now is the time to readjust your sleep habits. To get the most out of your slumber, establish a regular sleep schedule, create a relaxing bedtime routine, and limit screen time before bed. If you want to show up for yourself during the day, you have to show up for yourself at night too. Making sleep a priority can improve your health, mood, and overall quality of life.

Shed Any Extra

In line with the nature of the season, autumn is a great time to release anything that isn't working. In the same way that the trees release their leaves, spend some time considering what can be cut from your life that isn't serving you well. Your “no”s are sometimes more powerful than your “yes's” when it comes to protecting your wellbeing. Erasing unnecessary commitments isn’t a bad thing. It will leave room for new habits that help you reach your goals in a much more realistic way.

Now that we've looked at some wellness routines to help you stay healthy this autumn, it's time to get started on your own personalized plan. Whether you focus on diet, exercise, or self-care, make sure to take time to enjoy the fall season and all of its bounty. What are you most looking forward to this autumn?
